European Market 500SEC
THIS… is a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 500SEC, finished in Astral Silver with a gray interior.
This 500SEC is a Guatemalan-market coupe that was reportedly imported to the U.S. in 1984 and is currently titled in California. It's equipped with an imperial instrument cluster, and the odometer currently displays approximately 10,900 miles.
The attached Carfax history report begins in 1999 and contains a gap from 2001 to 2024, though it shows no accidents or mileage discrepancies for the given time period. It also lists registrations in California since at least 1999.
According to the build sheet provided in the gallery, factory equipment includes a sunroof, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, and more as listed below.
Modifications reported by the selling dealer include an AMG body kit, 17-inch AMG Aero wheels, Bilstein shocks, AMG lowering springs, an AMG steering wheel, and more as detailed below.
Known as the C126 internally, the SEC was launched for the 1983 model year as the W126's coupe counterpart. While buyers in America were initially asked to settle for the 155-horsepower 380 model, Europeans could order the 500 variant that offered a more powerful engine, and the power disparity helped fuel a lucrative gray market. 500 sedans and coupes finally arrived in America for 1984, and both body styles gained an even bigger V8 for 1986. SEC sales ended after the 1991 model year.
Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8, rated at 228 horsepower and 299 lb-ft of torque. Called M117 internally, it spins the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission.
