This 1957 Porsche 356A Speedster was ordered new through Hoffman Motors of New York and was specified in black over red leatherette. The flat-four was overhauled and increased in displacement to 1,720cc before the car was acquired by the current owner in 2013. Work in preparation for the sale involved reupholstering the interior as well as replacing the spark plugs, tires, wheels, battery, and valve cover gaskets. The car is additionally equipped with a black canvas soft top, a top boot, 15″ steel wheels, headlight grilles, a cabin heater, a Nardi steering wheel, and bucket seats. This Speedster is now offered on dealer consignment with a copy of the Kardex, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, a tool kit that was acquired by the current owner on BaT in February 2023, a replica tool kit, a spare set of wheels, the owner's manual, service records, spare parts, and a clean California title.
The Reutter-built body is finished in black (5701) and was repainted some time ago. Features include a removable black canvas soft top, a top boot, a driver-side mirror, headlight grilles, removable side curtains, and body-color bumpers. A scratch on the left rear quarter panel was repaired in January 2012. The replacement 15″ ventilated steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and were mounted with 185/15 Vredestein Sprint Classics tires in November 2024. The car was factory equipped with drum brakes at each corner.
The fixed-back bucket seats were reupholstered in red leatherette with black piping in December 2024, at which time the dash was re-covered, the carpets replaced, and the rear jump seat, door panels, and rear cowl re-trimmed. The wood-rimmed Nardi three-spoke steering wheel frames a central 6k-rpm 1600S tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge monitoring oil temperature and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 91k miles.
The flat-four was overhauled, fitted with rebuilt 1600SC cylinder heads, and increased in displacement to 1,720cc with 86mm pistons and liners by European Collectibles of Costa Mesa, California, which the seller states occurred around 2013. The generator was repaired, a valve adjustment was performed, the oil changed, and the spark plugs, valve cover gaskets, and battery replaced in January 2025. Engine stamping *66873* is shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on the CoA and copy of the Kardex.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual transaxle, which was overhauled in February 2013.
A factory tool kit and a replica tool kit accompany the vehicle, along with a spare set of wheels shown in the gallery below.
The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity shows the factory colors and serial numbers.
